Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi says the weekly rallies Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition leader promised on Monday will be more “tactful”.
This is after Monday’s protest led by the opposition chief Raila Odinga, where all roads leading to key government establishments were blocked, forcing the entourage to pass through residential estates outside the city centre.
Odinga had said the opposition would send representatives to State House to air the outfit’s grievances as part of the protest.
According to Osotsi, this hindered the presentation of a petition the opposition allegedly planned to take to President William Ruto’s official residence.
“They blocked us, they blocked all the avenues to present the petition but we now understand their tactics. We are going to become better, more organised and bigger as we go on with our Monday holidays,” Osotsi said on Tuesday.
He was speaking to Citizen TV on the Day Break program.
Odinga has meanwhile announced that there will be protests similar to what the opposition staged every Monday.
He says Monday’s mass action was just the beginning of what he called a fight for justice, adding that the protests will not stop until the cost of maize flour drops.
Other Azimio-allied politicians called Monday’s protest a “rehearsal”, saying Kenyans should anticipate more protests as the opposition continues to pressure President William Ruto’s administration to heed to their demands.
“Today was just a rehearsal, the real one is coming,” Suna East MP Junet Mohamed said.
The legislators trashed the National Police Service’s stance that the protests are unlawful, saying the mass action is in the interest of Kenyans.
