Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has again weighed in on the ongoing debate regarding the Adani Group’s involvement in significant infrastructure projects in Kenya. He asserted that any agreements between the national government and the Indian multinational conglomerate must adhere to the law.

In a statement shared on his X account on Sunday, October 13, 2024, Onyonka stressed that the deals should prioritize the interests of Kenya, ensuring that citizens receive value for their money from the projects managed by the Adani Group. He called for transparency, accountability, and responsiveness concerning the Adani agreements.

“We have constantly voiced and been very resolute that we want the Adani deal to be done within the law. Kenyans must get value for money from these projects. Transparency, accountability, and responsiveness are what has been our clarion call,” Onyonka stated.

In a video dated September 24, 2024, the outspoken senator clarified that they are not opposed to the rehabilitation of the airport by the Adani Group; rather, their fight centers on the need for transparency in the deal. He expressed concerns over the prospect of a single international company managing multiple public infrastructure projects.

“People think that we are fighting the airport, but what we are saying is to do it properly. We are having a country that is becoming dysfunctional. Everything is about a deal. How can Kenyans not be worried that one company is taking over your airport?” he questioned.
