President William Ruto has vowed to ensure that those involved in the assassination of Kasipul Member of Parliament (MP) Charles Ong’ondo Were will be brought to book.
Speaking in Migori County on Sunday, President Ruto vowed to use State agencies to unmask the MP’s killers, asserting that his government is committed to safeguard the lives of Kenyans.
“Lawlessness, violence cannot be part of our culture. We have a country to protect. Stability, peace unity of the nation is a major ingredient in development and growing the economy,” Ruto noted.
“We will get them, they will not succeed, they will have nowhere to hide and we will go after their collaborators until we ensure that such an incident does not happen again in the country.”
His assertion comes four days after MP Were was fatally shot at around 7.30pm on Wednesday along Ngong’ Road, near the City Mortuary roundabout in Nairobi.
According to eyewitness reports, the legislator was attacked by two assailants riding a motorbike as one reportedly alighted and opened fire at close range, fatally wounding the MP.
The unknown attackers appeared to have specifically targeted the MP, as his driver escaped the incident unharmed.
The National Police Service (NPS) has stated that the fatal shooting is being treated as a targeted and premeditated attack.
Meanwhile, two suspects linked to the murder have been arrested.
Police sources said the suspects were apprehended in a Saturday night operation in Nairobi’s Eastlands.
MP Were’s death, however, revealed the many faces he donned as a section of Kasipul constituents came out to speak of their ordeals at the hands and instruction of their now deceased MP.
