An emotional Tim Walz delivered a rousing speech as he accepted the vice-presidential nomination, declaring, “We’ll sleep when we’re dead. And we’re gonna leave it all on the field,” during the party convention in Chicago.
In his keynote address, Walz highlighted his small-town roots and his experiences as a teacher and coach. The speech followed a surprise appearance by Oprah Winfrey, who urged the enthusiastic audience to support Kamala Harris in the upcoming election.
Former President Bill Clinton, delivering his 12th consecutive convention speech, praised Harris as “extraordinary” and criticized Donald Trump for “creating chaos.”
Meanwhile, protests continued on the streets of Chicago for the fourth day, with demonstrators expressing opposition to US support for Israel’s actions in Gaza.
Earlier, Donald Trump made his first outdoor rally appearance since a July assassination attempt, speaking from behind bulletproof glass.
The four-day convention is set to officially nominate Harris as the Democratic presidential candidate.
