National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has criticized a group of Luhya MPs who have expressed opposition to President Ruto’s decision to collaborate with the Opposition. The Ford Kenya leader stated that the MPs, who have publicly criticized the president and are organizing a rally in Kakamega to discuss the future of the Mulembe nation in light of this decision, are misguided.

“I appeal to Luhya leaders opposing President Ruto’s initiatives, reminding them that Kenya’s well-being surpasses individual interests and urge them to respect the leaders appointed to serve in the government,” he said.

A group of MPs and other Luhya leaders has organized a significant meeting in Kakamega today to discuss the political future of the community, expressing feelings of exclusion from the current government.

While visiting Nzoia Sugar Factory to meet with staff, Wetang’ula lamented that discontent with President William Ruto’s decision was primarily found in Luhya land. He questioned, “Why is it that only in Western are leaders agitated by the president’s move? We’ve seen people celebrating in Nyanza, Central, and the Coast!”

He praised ODM leader Raila Odinga’s decision to nominate key members of his party to the Cabinet, stating that this move would help lower political tensions and promote national healing. “Former Prime Minister Odinga’s decision is patriotic and reinforces President Ruto’s efforts to heal and restore stability in the country,” Wetang’ula remarked.

The Speaker emphasized that a government of national unity is crucial for achieving Kenya’s economic stability and prosperity. He also criticized Odinga’s detractors for condemning his collaboration with the government and urged them to reconsider their position.

He pointed out that the celebrations surrounding the nomination of ODM leaders to the Cabinet in their communities were indicative of acceptance.

“The reception by supporters of leaders from the Opposition nominated to the Cabinet coupled by a warm welcome accorded to president Ruto by locals in Mombasa recently should be an eye opener to those opposed to the decision by the Head of State,” he added.
