Sauti Sol, the Kenyan boy band, has announced their decision to go on an indefinite hiatus from the Kenyan music scene following the conclusion of their world tour, which is set to commence on May 21, 2023.
In a statement to their fans, the popular group acknowledged they will be taking an indefinite hiatus, a term often used by bands as a way to soften the impact of a breakup on their loyal supporters, despite the underlying truth being rather harsh.
This upcoming tour spanning the United States, Europe, and Canada presents an opportunity for fans to immerse themselves in the enchantment of Sauti Sol before the band takes a pause from their collaborative endeavors for the foreseeable future.
In their heartfelt message, the group conveyed profound love and gratitude towards their devoted fans who have supported them in various ways throughout the years.
“As we embark on this indefinite hiatus, we recognize that it signifies the closing of a significant chapter. As lifelong friends and business partners, each member of the band is excited to venture into new creative avenues and pursue personal endeavors,” the statement emphasized.
In what is seen by a move the group to pursue individual interests, including focusing on the respective music careers, final performance before the break will grace the stage at the highly anticipated third annual Sol Fest in Nairobi, scheduled for December 16, 2023.
The group took another break two years ago.
In November, 2022, the band released their first group project together in two years, titled – “Lil Mama”.
During the two years break, the super-group said they had embarked on their ‘Alone Together’ project, working on individual projects and spending some time building one of the fastest-growing creative agencies in East Africa – Sol Generation Records.
Sauti Sol consists of four members namely Bien-Aimé Baraza who doubles up as the lead vocalists and songwriters for the group.
The others are Willis Chimano, Savara Mudigi and Polycarp Otieno.
