Why use of viagra is on the rise in Nairobi

Joel Otieno a resident of Nairobi, in an exclusive interview with Nairobi News, says his sexual partner has been consistently mounting pressure on him in the course of adult naptime.

Failiure to live up to her expectation, Mr Otieno adds, leads her to refer to him as a two-minute man.

This kind of pressure has led Me Otieno, and perhaps other men, searching for avenues to try to raise his ‘sport’.

On advice of his older friends, he resorted to chewing traditional roots commonly referred to as Mukombero, and consuming groundnuts to up his ante. This partially worked.

“There is nothing as painful as your partner raising doubts on your performance,” he explained.

He is not alone.

Samuel Mutiso, also a Nairobi resident, recalls when he was once humiliated by his partner.

“She once referred to me as a two-minute person. It really hurt me. Women have become too demanding,” he offered.

Criticism of men’s performance during intimacy has been on the rise, pushing them to opt for unhealthy ways of coping with the new norm like using deadly enhancers including Viagra. This has resulted to consequences.

On December 29, 2022, a 59-year old man died at a lodging in Kuria West West after reportedly taking sex enhancers but then failing to convince his partner to engage in the act.

Viagra is a remedy for the treatment of erectile disorder, it is prescribed in the shape of a pill ranging from 25mg (low dose) and 100mg (excessive dose) depending on the extent of the disorder.

Viagra is sold by local chemists in different forms, the common one being the blue pill costing as low as Sh50 for 50mg and Sh10 for (100mg) making it readily affordable to many.

Dr. Godfrey Ochieng from St Mary’s health facility in Nairobi warns that Viagra needs to be used under the prescription of a physician, it is supposed to deal with erectile dysfunctions which range depending on the age.

The confessions come a day after a 43-year old Catholic priest based in Nairobi died at a local hotel where he is reported to have checked in with a woman believed to be his girlfriend.

The death was reported on July 8, 2023.

The deceased has been identified as Joseph Kariuki who serves at the archdiocese of Nairobi.

He died at the Monalisa hotel in Murang’a county where they had checked in for the night.

According to police, the deceased who is said to be serving at St Peter’s Parish in Ruai and who is also a farmer at Mang’u area checked in at the said hotel in company of the lady who is said to be his girlfriend and happens to be her colleague at the workplace in Ruai.

The medical doctor additionally highlighted the consequences of using Viagra without the prescription of a doctor which encompasses: prolonged painful erection, backaches, muscle pain, nasal congestion, headache, dizziness, stroke, and coronary heart assault which may also result in death.
