Former Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria’s wife, Jane Waigwe Kimani, appeared in court on Tuesday to plead not guilty to corruption charges amounting to Ksh.562 million. Alongside her brother, David Maina Kiama, she faced charges of conspiracy to commit corruption.
The allegations date back to October 21, 2014, to June 19, 2017, involving the unlawful awarding of media services contracts to Top Image Media Consultant Limited. They were granted release on a bond of Ksh.5 million or a cash bail of Ksh.1 million, with additional conditions set by the court, including surrendering travel documents and obtaining permission before leaving the country.
Former Governor Wa Iria also faced corruption charges and spent a night in prison after failing to meet bail conditions. He faces charges of abuse of office, conflict of interest, unlawful acquisition of public property, and money laundering, all of which he denies.
