Kenya’s Wiseman Were secured a spot in the semi-finals of the men’s Olympic 400m hurdles at the Stade de France on Monday, advancing as one of the three fastest losers.
The Commonwealth Games bronze medalist clocked a time of 48.58 seconds to finish fifth in the fourth heat, which was won by Jamaica’s Roshawn Clarke in the sweltering early morning conditions.
Notably, Italy’s Alessandro Sibilion, who finished fourth with a time of 48.43 seconds, and Nick Smidt from the Netherlands, who achieved a season-best of 48.64 seconds, also advanced from the same heat, which produced the fastest times among the five heats.
Reigning champion and world record holder Karsten Warholm comfortably progressed by winning his heat in 47.57 seconds. Also moving on without issue were Warholm’s main rivals for gold: American Rai Benjamin and Brazilian Alison Dos Santos.
The semi-finals are set to take place at 20:05 Kenyan time on Wednesday, with the final scheduled for 22:45 on Friday.
