Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested a suspected fraudster purporting to be an Anti-Corruption Lawyer and Investigator who is accused of conning the public in Nairobi.
The suspect Ms. Ezely Omwoyo, alias ‘Jacinta’ is said to have been pocketing millions of shillings by coning unsuspecting Government officials, contractors, suppliers and members of the public with the promise of terminating her victims’ graft cases.
EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi confirmed the arrest of Omwoyo on Thursday saying the suspect would first dupe her victims into believing she had sensitive corruption files to incriminate them and effect an immediate arrest.
After the threat of arrest, Ngubi says that the suspect would go ahead to negotiate for a bribe amounting to millions claiming that the huge sum would be shared with her bosses at EACC, ODPP and the Anti-Corruption Court.
The woman was nabbed on Thursday after one of her victims, a senior government official, she had summoned to appear at the EACC Integrity Centre, filed a complaint to the commission beforehand.
The complainant received a call from Jacinta on Tuesday and ordered him to appear at the Commision’s headquarters on Thursday, failing to which he would be arrested.
On Thursday morning, the suspect changed tune and ordered the complainant first to meet her at Nairobi Public Service Club Coffee Shop, after which they would proceed to the Integrity Centre.
The complainant harboured suspicion and informed EACC officers who apprehended the while negotiating for a bribe.
She was detained at EACC Integrity Centre Police Station and processed on Friday.
