A woman who was on the night of Thursday, July 13, 2023, arrested for assaulting her biological son is expected to be arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts today.

The woman recorded herself while physically abusisng the baby. The woman shared the video, showing her physically abusing the child while ordering him to stop crying. When the video was shared on TikTok it sparked an online outrage.

A police report seen by Nairobi News reveals that the mother will be charged with torturing the baby.

When police officers first went to the woman’s home where she resides with her mother, she had been hidden by a neighbour. Efforts to locate her proved futile, and the police returned to the station.

However, a Good Samaritan eventually alerted them to her whereabouts. This was part of the local residents resolve to save the abused child.

Ms Juliana Olayo, an activist based in Huruma, joined other women from the Shine a Light CBO in Mathare slums to rescue the baby.

“When our team arrived at the location where the woman and the mother were staying, a commotion erupted, and a neighbour attempted to hide the baby. However, we managed to thwart their plans and quickly spotted the child,” Ms Olayo explained.

Shortly afterward, plainclothes police officers, led by Huruma Police Station Deputy OCS Abubakar Mbarak, entered the apartment and arrested the suspect.

“Surprisingly, we also discovered that the baby’s father had been providing support for the child, but he was never given the chance to see him,” Ms Olayo further revealed,

She has also fundraised and bought the minor clothes and other requirements in the last two days.
