Women groups in Laikipia County have taken up computer lessons in efforts to familiarize themselves with the fast-moving digital world.
The training sessions at a local empowerment center, has seen them enroll for classes in computer modules and sewing.
Baraka Women Center, based in Rumuruti, has seen dozens trained on economic empowerment.
“Some of us will gain skills in computer, while others have enrolled for sewing courses,” a beneficiary said.
The initiative targets to train at least 800 women and youth from various social groups within Laikipia.
“We urge women and the youth to take up the opportunity in order to better their lives,” Tessie Mudavadi said.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, the women said the center has seen them acquire computer skills.
They urged youth to be part of the program adding that it will help keep them off alcoholism and substance abuse.
At the same time, area leaders among them Laikipia Woman Representative Jane Kagiri, Igwamiti MCA Irene Wachuka and Laikipia first lady Grace Irungu underscored the need to tap into emerging opportunities.
“We also urge you to register for the Women Enterprise Fund in order to broaden your resource pool,” they said.
