Two-time world 1500 metres champion Faith Kipyegon says she is still undecided on whether or not she will run at the fourth edition of the Kip Keino Classic World Athletics Continental Tour at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.

The double Olympic champion said she will consult with her management after which she will issue the way forward as regards her participation in the global showpiece.

“About Kip Keino Classic, I cannot say much right now. But, hopefully after tomorrow (Sunday) or Monday, I will have decided on whether or not I will run in the Kip Keino Classic. At the moment, I want to wish all the best to all the athletes who are coming to compete and hopefully, I’ll see you on Saturday,” she said.

The 28-year-old was speaking at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, early Sunday morning after arriving from Qatar where she set a world lead of 3:58.57 at the Doha Diamond League on Friday night.

The win was her second this year after she clocked 33:55 to win the senior women’s race at February’s Sirikwa World Cross Country Tour in Eldoret.

Kipyegon, who is eyeing the world record for the women’s 1500m and a third world title, said she hopes to build upon her exceptional showing in the Qatari capital by dominating this year’s Diamond League series.

“Last time, I missed out a bit but this year, I am hoping everything will be well. The key is to train hard and eat healthy and trust in God. I will keep on trying and I think this year things will be really good for me,” she said.

The last time Kipyegon competed at the Kip Keino Classic was in September 2021 where she timed 4:02.04 to win the women’s 1500m at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.

Arriving in the country at the same time as Kipyegon was the 2014 World Indoor 800m silver medalist Angelika Cichoka who will be competing at the Kip Keino Classic for the first time since the event’s inception in 2020.
