The Enterprise Cup makes its return with all eyes on the clash between perennial contenders KCB and defending champions Kabras Sugar. Despite falling short in their bid for the Kenya Cup title for the third consecutive season, KCB is determined to seize the opportunity to claim the Enterprise Cup.
They will kick off their campaign by hosting Kenya Harlequin at the KCB Sports Club in the semifinals today.
In the lead-up to this stage, the Bankers showcased their dominance with impressive victories, defeating Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) 70-3 in the pre-quarterfinals and securing a convincing 65-7 win over Northern Suburbs in the quarterfinals.
The competition briefly paused to accommodate the Rugby Super Series, which concluded last week at the RFUEA Grounds.
“KCB is eager to participate in the semis of this historic competition that has strengthened the country’s rugby game.
“Some of our boys took part in the Rugby Super Series, while others have been intensifying their training to be ready for this event. We are urging our fans to rally behind the team on Saturday,” KCB Head Coach Curtis Olago said.
The Bankers, who boast an impressive record with five previous Enterprise Cup victories (in 2004, 2007, 2015, 2016, and 2017), are pinning their hopes on key players like centre Bob Muhati, Levy Amunga, Brian Wahinya, and promising youngsters Emmanuel Opondo and Michael Wamalwa to lead the charge towards the finals and potentially reclaim the title.
Despite their disappointment in losing the Kenya Cup title to Kabras Sugar, head coach Olago remains optimistic about their chances in the Enterprise Cup. He emphasizes the importance of winning this trophy as a reward for the dedicated fans who have stood by the team throughout.
A victory in the Enterprise Cup would provide a significant morale boost to the squad as they gear up for the National Sevens Circuit, set to commence in July.
Meanwhile, defending champions Kabras Sugar will be facing Nondescripts at the Kakamega Showground, aiming to secure a spot in the final and pursue their fourth successive title.
