Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot has called out political leaders exposing government ills after being ousted.

According to Aukot, those censuring the state only after being fired cannot be trusted because they chose to remain tight-lipped when they enjoyed sound leadership in their respective roles.

Terming the government a “criminal enterprise”, Aukot noted that those individuals are also part of the rot in national governance.

“There is a crisis of leadership. We don’t even know who to believe anymore. Whether somebody is in government, or as soon as they exit government they start telling us things,” he told Citizen TV on Tuesday.

“The government of Kenya today is a conspiracy to defraud Kenyans of better governance. People know the bad things that are happening in government, they don’t speak but they still stay there until they are shown the door. These are fraudsters. When it is convenient to them, they keep quiet.”

He believes that these embattled leaders should first mend ties with Kenyans before taking the opposition role of criticizing their former employee.

This comes in the wake of damning revelations from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi of how the government is a hotbed of corruption and frail governance.

After being ousted from power in October 2024, Gachagua has mounted pressure against President William Ruto, accusing him of being the “high priest” of corruption.

His sentiments have prompted a fierce scuffle between the two, as Ruto has revealed that Gachagua demanded Ksh.10 billion to rally support for the President in the Mt. Kenya region.

Gachagua has scoffed at the claims, terming the allegations as baseless and a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation, particularly in his Central Kenya stronghold.

“I never blackmailed the President. If that were the case, it would have been the first charge during the efforts to force me out of office,” Gachagua told KTN on Monday.

On his part, Muturi told NTV that Ruto attempted to arm-twist him to sign a Ksh.129 billion deal with Russian Oligarchs on planting trees.

The former CS explained that the deal would have contravened the law as such funds must go through the Treasury and should not be channeled directly to a Ministry.
