Ugandan socialite Zari Hassan has criticised social media, saying it has created unrealistic expectations and behaviour among both men and women.
On Sunday, February 8, 2026, she said platforms have made men obsessed with women they have never met, and women feel entitled to lifestyles they cannot afford.
“Everyone is chasing illusions instead of building reality,” she said. She described the situation as a circus.
The social media influencer and businesswoman explained that these behaviours are harming real relationships and personal growth. She said people spend too much time comparing themselves to others online instead of focusing on building their own lives.

“It’s a circus,” Zari repeated, emphasising how chaotic online culture can be.
She noted that the obsession and entitlement are driven by a desire for attention and status. According to Zari, social media encourages people to pursue illusions rather than genuine achievement.
She said this trend is especially visible among young men and women who measure their worth by what they see online.
Social media illusions vs reality
Zari Hassan also addressed the pressure social media places on women to live beyond their means. She said many feel entitled to luxurious lifestyles they cannot afford and end up chasing material symbols instead of building real wealth.
“Women are feeling entitled to lifestyles they’ve never had and can’t afford,” she said.

She argued that men are equally affected, often becoming obsessed with women they barely know online. This, she said, distorts relationships and creates unrealistic expectations in both dating and social life.
From her post, Zari highlighted that social media can be entertaining, but it can also be damaging if it leads to chasing illusions.
Zari Hassan calls herself a boss lady, a label she lives by. She is a businesswoman, mother of five, and outspoken public figure who does not hesitate to share her opinions. Her comments reflect her approach to life, blending personal experience with observation of broader social trends.
She continues to use her platform to offer advice and challenge harmful behaviours she sees online. Zari’s message encourages people to focus on building reality, pursuing genuine achievements, and maintaining perspective in a world dominated by social media.
