Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has emphasized that the ultimate goal is not just a ceasefire but lasting peace in the region. He stressed that the collective efforts of the global community are crucial in ensuring that commitments toward achieving lasting peace are upheld.

Following Russia’s attack on Kharkiv, Zelensky urged world leaders to demonstrate their support and leadership by participating in the inaugural Global Peace Summit, co-hosted by Ukraine and Switzerland.

This summit serves as a platform for international collaboration and solidarity in pursuit of sustainable peace efforts. Zelensky’s call highlights the importance of multilateral engagement and cooperation in addressing global challenges and conflicts.

“And that’s exactly why global efforts are needed – the Global Peace Summit of the leaders whom Russia won’t be able to deceive.

“Summit that will show who in the world really wants to end the war and not just claim the ceasefire which will inevitably be broken by Russian rockets and artillery just like it was dozens, dozens of times before,” the Ukrainian President said.

He said so far, over 80 countries have confirmed participation in the Peace Summit, with more expected to do the same. About 160 countries had been invited.
Zelensky said it is time world leaders showed their leadership in upholding the UN Charter on peace by making their voices heard.

“And I am appealing to the leaders of the world who are still aside from the global efforts of the Global Peace Summit – to President Biden, the leader of the United States, and to President Xi, the leader of China.

We do not want the UN Charter to be burnt… burnt down just like these books. And I hope you don’t want either.

“Please, show your leadership in advancing the peace – the real peace and not just a pause between the strikes,” Zelensky added.

The Ukraine President emphasised on the importance of world leaders coming together to forge a united front towards achieving peace.

“There is no nation that can stop such war alone, unaided – world leaders’ engagement is needed,” Zelensky insisted.
