Twelve young individuals are currently in police custody following their arrest for attempting to assault Bondo Police Station during unsuccessful anti-government protests on Thursday. Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo reported that youths began gathering in Bondo town around noon and tried to block the roads.
Mr. Kimaiyo explained that by 2pm, a small group of protesters started attacking the station by throwing stones persistently. This prompted an intensified response from an anti-riot team led by himself, which successfully dispersed the violent protesters from the town.
He further stated that during the incident, authorities arrested the 12 suspects who were involved in pelting the station with stones and other projectiles. The county police chief also confirmed that the anti-riot team maintained vigilance, clearing the town of small groups of violent demonstrators until 9:30pm when they concluded their operation.
Mr. Kimaiyo assured that there were no injuries reported from either side, emphasizing that the detained youths would be presented in court on Friday.
