The on-air tension between Simon Kabu and his estranged ex-wife Sarah Mtalii reached a dramatic peak on Wednesday, 30 September, when Radio Jambo presenter Massawe Japanni patched Simon through on a live call while Sarah was seated in the studio.
Sarah Mtalii, formerly known as Sarah Kabu, co-founded Bonfire Adventures alongside Simon before the pair’s widely publicised split. The breakup has since spilled into public view repeatedly, and this latest broadcast became the most direct confrontation between the two since their separation.
The allegations that sparked the showdown
The confrontation was triggered by a wave of claims that emerged in September 2026, when a group of Sarah’s former employees took to Edgar Obare’s platform to allege she had withheld their salaries while continuing to fund a high-profile lifestyle.
The accusations quickly went viral, drawing fresh attention to the couple’s bitter split and raising questions about the state of Sarah’s businesses.
During the live broadcast, Masawe pressed Sarah directly on how many months’ worth of wages remained unpaid across her companies.
Sarah pushed back firmly, insisting that all salaries had been paid up to the previous month and offering to post payment confirmations online as proof.
She went further, alleging that some cheques had been cancelled by Simon himself, a claim that added another layer of bitterness to the exchange.
Simon calls in and refuses to play ball Simon, for his part, was reluctant to engage on the specifics. He acknowledged being on the line but declined to get drawn into a detailed back-and-forth, saying he did not wish to discuss the mother of his children on radio.
He framed their disputes as private business matters that are normal in any company, adding that he had turned down more than 30 interview requests over the past two and a half years out of respect for Sarah’s role as the mother of his children.
“I don’t want to discuss the mother of my children on radio,” Simon said during the call, “because every business has its ups and downs and these things are never sorted in front of the public.”
He repeatedly urged both parties to move on, insisting that since they had separated, there was little point in continuing to trade accusations publicly.
Sarah, however, was less restrained, pressing Simon to allow staff members to speak for themselves and confirm which months they had gone unpaid.
The exchange ended without any clear resolution, with Simon thanking the hosts before signing off and Sarah maintaining her position that the allegations formed part of a coordinated smear campaign linked to their messy divorce.
