Lawyer Robert Langat, who appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi, has been sentenced to six years in prison for stealing shares valued at Sh23.6 million. Langat faced four counts of stealing, accused of jointly with others not present in court, stealing 1,026,700 shares worth Sh23,697,131 from Kingdom Securities Limited between March 8, 2017, and April 7, 2017.

Additionally, he was charged with forging a certificate of confirmation of grant, purportedly issued and signed by Justice Aggrey Muchelule, with intent to defraud Kingdom Securities Limited. Langat pleaded for leniency during mitigation, citing his role as the sole breadwinner for his family.

“Your honor I am a family man and the sole breadwinner to my family and for that reason I am asking for leniency,” he pleaded.

In delivering the ruling, the Magistrate stated that the offences the accused was convicted with are very serious and could not be tolerated.

“The offences are very serious and need a custodial sentence,” said the magistrate.
