Detectives suspect that the body of a woman found in the Lari area of Kiambu County could belong to missing taxi driver Victoria Mumbua Muloki, who disappeared on September 27 while operating in Mombasa. Since her disappearance, efforts to trace her have been unsuccessful, according to police reports.
This development follows the family’s dispute of earlier reports claiming Muloki had been found in Uriri, Migori County. Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) revealed that the body was located at the Nairobi City Mortuary after questioning a suspect in custody.
Edwin Ng’etich was arrested after he was found driving Muloki’s vehicle in Nakuru. Following intense interrogation, he allegedly confessed to detectives and guided them to the site where he had discarded her body, which was discovered in a thicket in Mai Mahiu, Lari, Kiambu County. The body was taken to the City Mortuary and registered as an unknown individual on September 29.
Muloki’s family, based in Mombasa, has been informed and intends to visit the mortuary for identification purposes. A postmortem examination is planned to determine the cause of death.
Records indicate that Ng’etich has a history of similar offenses. The motive behind the incident remains unclear. Police suspect that Muloki was lured by her abductors, who may not have used the usual ride-hailing application to book their trip to avoid detection. “We believe the person who abducted her approached her directly for the trip or took her from Mombasa,” said a police officer familiar with the investigation.
Muloki, 35, was driving a Nissan Serena when she went missing, with her last known communication recorded while she was in Samburu, Kwale County. Her vehicle was recovered during Ng’etich’s arrest and is currently held at Mwariki Police Station in Nakuru.
Samburu town is located about 66 kilometres from Mombasa Central Business District.
Muloki’s disappearance was reported at the Makupa Police Station in Mombasa by her mother.
Police investigations show the vehicle had earlier been spotted in the Kondele area in Kisumu County.
It was later traced to Nakuru as police intensified their search for the woman who had found success in the male-dominated taxi business.
A team of detectives is pursuing the incident.
