In Nyakach, Kisumu County, police have arrested an 18-year-old boy after he fatally assaulted a relative who allegedly insulted his father by calling him a witch in Dirubi village.

The victim’s father, identified as Valentine Ochieng, was subsequently killed by an enraged mob that stormed his residence in retaliation.

The mob proceeded to set fire to four houses at the suspect’s home in an act of retribution.

According to a police report, the 18-year-old and his father encountered the deceased while on their way home, during which the deceased purportedly accused the boy’s father of witchcraft.

An altercation ensued between the young man and the deceased, culminating in the former overpowering the latter and fatally striking him on the head with a wooden stick.

The victim was initially rushed to Nyabondo Mission Hospital before being transferred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), where he succumbed to his injuries.

Subsequently, the angered mob invaded the suspect’s father’s residence, lynched him, and set his property ablaze.

The police are currently investigating the matter.
