Over 10,000 athletes are set to compete for glory at this year’s Chepsaita Cross Country, marking the second edition of the event.

Central Rift Athletics Kenya chairman Abraham Mutai shared updates during a meeting at the Chepkemel venue in Turbo, noting that final preparations are underway. He stated that 90 percent of the course is ready, and the safety of spectators is also a key consideration in their planning. “All is going well as far as preparations are concerned; we have a registration of over 10,000 athletes, and starting next month, we will be moving here for proper planning,” Mutai said.

Barnabas Korir, an executive member and youth development chairman at Athletics Kenya, mentioned that 70 percent of the slots will be reserved for local athletes. “Even though it’s a world event, so far we have confirmation of participation from top-range athletes from Ethiopia, Morocco, Uganda, and Tanzania,” Korir noted. He added that Athletics Kenya is collaborating closely with ADAK and AIU to sensitize and monitor athletes and coaches to prevent doping cases.
