Police in Naivasha have apprehended a 25-year-old suspect in connection with the murder of a supermarket manager in the lakeside town. The suspect was captured within Naivasha town, following revelations by investigating officers that he had a prior relationship with the deceased before a falling out occurred.
During the investigation, detectives recovered the murder weapon, electronic equipment, and clothing belonging to the 38-year-old manager. The manager’s absence from work on May 22 prompted police intervention, leading to the discovery of his badly mutilated body in his residence, submerged in a pool of blood.
Sources familiar with the investigation disclosed that the suspect had been romantically involved with the deceased before their relationship deteriorated. The suspect, who admitted to the crime, cited betrayal as the motive for the fatal attack, which transpired inside a rental house in Naivasha town.
“The suspect had the key to the victim’s house and would visit him regularly before they fell out, leading to the attack two weeks ago,” the source said.
The officer added that the suspect out of anger used a kitchen knife to kill his lover before leaving with some personal effects and electronics.
Naivasha OCPD Stephen Kirui confirmed the arrest, adding that the suspect was in custody and would be arraigned in court for murder.
Using CCTV footage and phone records, the investigating officers managed to track the suspect who lived in the same vicinity with the victim.
“In the suspect’s house, the investigating officers recovered some of the stolen items including a TV set, a tablet, cooking gas and bloodied clothes among others,” he said.
Upon further interrogation, the suspect guided the officers to the victim’s residence, where they discovered the concealed murder weapon. “From initial investigations, it’s evident that the two knew each other, and that’s how the suspect managed to easily access the victim’s house,” stated the investigating officer.
