A chief from Wajir County and a Huduma Centre official have been charged at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court for allegedly tampering with national identity details.
Chief Abdullahi Abdi Sheikh is accused of falsifying his date of birth, changing it from 1997 to 1987. The prosecution claims he also provided false information to obtain a birth entry number despite already having a birth certificate issued in 1997.
His co-accused, Veronica Njenga, a senior clerical officer at Nairobi City Square Huduma Centre, faces charges of unlawfully altering Sheikh’s identity details. She is also charged with abuse of office under the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.
Njenga’s lawyer pleaded for lenient bond terms, citing her nearly 30 years of public service and a clean record.
Presiding Magistrate Isabella Barasa granted the accused bond of Ksh.1.5 million or an alternative cash bail of Ksh.300,000. Both were also ordered to surrender their passports.
The case is set for mention next week for pre-trial directions.
