Police in Kiambu County have launched investigations into a daring robbery at the Pentecostal Church of East Africa in Rironi, Limuru, where thieves not only made off with musical equipment but also indulged in drinking wine on the night of Saturday, December 16, 2023.
Kiambu County Police Commander, Mr Michael Muchiri, confirmed the incident, stating that a manhunt for the suspects is underway.
“We are aware of the incident, and police officers have launched a manhunt for the suspect. We shall get hold of them very soon,” Mr Muchiri assured Nairobi News in a phone interview.
During the break-in, the robbers attacked and injured a security guard who was on duty at the church compound. The injured guard has since provided a statement to the police.
Church leaders in Kiambu, alarmed by an increasing trend of church robberies, expressed their concerns. Mr Aaron Ngaruiya, Limuru Churches Chairperson, urged law enforcement to take decisive action and apprehend all culprits, even if they include church members involved in criminal activities.
“These robbers usually come to our churches and make away with valuable equipment bought by members through fundraisers; this is unacceptable,” Mr Ngaruiya explained.

He expressed astonishment that the robbers even had the audacity to consume wine before making off with valuable items.
Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Mr Ngaruiya called for increased police patrols, particularly during the festive season when crime tends to surge.
This incident follows a similar case reported in August when vandals targeted the Kerwa Catholic Church.
In that instance, the vandals scaled a perimeter wall, damaged motor vehicles, and fled the scene. The community is increasingly alarmed by the audacity and frequency of such crimes targeting places of worship.
The police are now under pressure to swiftly apprehend those responsible and ensure the safety and security of the community during this holiday season.
