Banners calling on George Ruto to take up the Sports Cabinet Secretary position went viral on Monday after his matatu crew, Raptor Family, shared them on Instagram.
The banners sparked a fresh round of speculation about the businessman’s future ambitions.
Is George Ruto eyeing the Sports CS position?
The post, shared from the account @raptorfam_ke, showed a driver known as Kinara standing in front of a banner that read:
“Badilisha Mtaa na George Ruto” alongside the phrases “For Sports. For Youth. For Tomorrow” and “Be part of the change! Let’s build a winning nation.”
The caption simply read:
“Be part of something bigger.”
Sharp-eyed followers were quick to point out that Kinara, the Raptor Family driver featured in the image, was wearing a cap bearing the colours of the UDA party, the same party through which his father, President William Ruto, rose to the presidency.
That detail alone was enough to convince some that the banners were not entirely innocent.
However, the crew later clarified that the banners and message were not politically affiliated.
“This is not political. Our boss is a youth, and he wants to create a crime-free environment. Then he will involve the youth in certain areas such as sports, etc.,” they wrote in the comments.
Despite Raptor Family’s insistence that the post is not a political venture, the optics have been difficult to shake.
George has built a visible presence among young Kenyans through his matatu business, sports involvement and youth-oriented initiatives, a profile that has long fuelled whispers about a possible future in public life.
Can George Ruto become a politician?
The president’s son has been consistent in pushing back against the narrative that he intends to follow his father into politics. George has spoken publicly about staying in his lane, focusing instead on his business interests and his work as a trained pilot.
His passion for sports and his ties to grassroots communities through ventures like the Raptor Family fleet have made him a recognisable figure in Nairobi’s streets, but he has maintained that recognition is not the same as political intent.
Whether the banner campaign reflects a genuine change in direction or simply an enthusiastic show of support from his crew remains unclear.
For now, the Raptor Family stands by the message that this is about sports, youth and community, not a seat in government.
