Kenyan doctors have mourned the late former Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha as a “true visionary” whose achievements in the education and health sectors will have a lasting impact.

Prof. Magoha passed away on Tuesday at the Nairobi Hospital where he had been rushed after collapsing at his Nairobi home.

The medics, through their Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists’ Union (KMPDU), said Prof. Magoha’s dedication and passion will be missed by the entire medical profession.

KMDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah, in a statement to newsroom, credited the late no-nonsensical career surgeon with promoting unity in the sector and being at the frontline in ensuring university dons were promptly paid their allowances.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of former Education CS Professor George Magoha, a true visionary leader in the education and health sectors. His dedication, passion, and contributions have had a lasting impact and will be deeply missed by his family, relatives, former students colleagues, and Kenyans,” wrote Dr. Atellah.

“He upheld the medical profession and ensured there was harmony in the sector, including helping resolve payment of allowances for university dons. The medical profession has lost a great surgeon.”

The KMPDU boss remembered Prof. Magoha for his efforts in instilling discipline in whatever capacity he served in.

Dr. Atellah commended the former CS for establishing proper structures during his time as Vice Chancellor at the University of Nairobi, as well as at the Ministry of Education.

“He reformed institutions, established discipline, built infrastructure; from College of Health Sciences to Main campus to Medical Council, and to education ministry. He instilled discipline in conduct of examinations,” he stated.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and loved ones during this difficult time. We will always remember Prof. George Magoha for his legacy. May his soul rest in peace.”
