Kenyans Rally to Support Boda Rider after Clothing KU Student Pledge to Buy Him Motorbike

A boda boda rider’s quiet act of compassion near Kenyatta University (KU) has moved hundreds of Kenyans to open their wallets for him, with a growing online fundraiser aiming to put a brand new motorbike under him.

Rahim, who operates a boda boda belonging to someone else, was going about his day when he noticed a woman without clothes walking along the road outside the KU gate.

Rather than look the other way, he stopped, covered her, and immediately reached out to social activist Derrick Mbugua for further help.

Mbugua, who shared the story on Facebook on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, said that together they managed to fully assist the distressed woman. What Rahim did not anticipate was the wave of goodwill his gesture would trigger in return.

How much does Mbugua want to raise?

After Mbugua shared the story, Kenyans flooded his inbox with a common suggestion: if Rahim was riding another person’s motorbike, then he deserved one of his own.

That idea quickly turned into an active fundraiser targeting KSh 167,000, the price of a brand new Boxer 125 cc.

By the time Mbugua gave his second update, the campaign had already collected KSh 28,000, leaving a balance of KSh 139,000. He encouraged well-wishers to contribute whatever they could, saying amounts as small as KSh 50 would count towards the goal.

Is kindness paid or rewarded?

“Kindness is not paid, it’s rewarded,” Mbugua wrote, urging Kenyans to pool their efforts under the spirit of Kenyans for Kenyans.

Contributions can be sent directly to Rahim via M-Pesa using the number 0702323458, registered under the name Ibrahim Kamau Waweru.

Mbugua confirmed he would share a further update later in the evening, as the campaign continued to gather steam.
