One person died while digging a well at Kandongu trading centre in Mwea-west sub-county, Kirinyaga County.

Police said they suspect the man died due to a lack of enough Oxygen supply in the well.

According to residents, the deceased was contacted by a rental house owner to dig a well before disaster struck.

Locals added that the move sought to increase the water supply in the area following the prolonged drought.

“We were extending a 43-foot well that had dried up when I noticed he was not responding,” his colleague John Muchiri said.

Residents used a rope to remove the body from the well before it was taken to Kerugoya’s referral hospital mortuary.
