Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has suspended bodaboda operations around the Milimani and Tom Mboya areas in the county.

In a statement, the governor cited increased cases of robbery with violence with a recent case reported this week.

“The city management has noted with concerns rising cases of robberies with violence in Milimani and Tom Mboya estates where residents have complained of being mugged and their phones snatched by people riding on bodaboda. In view of the above and in order to enhance security, the management has suspended all bodaboda operations in Milimani with immediate effect,” part of the statement read.

At the same time, the county boss rendered all bodaboda sheds within these areas illegal and advised riders to find alternatives.

“Any rider who wishes to operate in the area is advised to make prior arrangements with the client to avoid getting in trouble with the law. Take further notice that all bodaboda sheds within the Milimani area are now rendered illegal and those operating in those sheds should look for alternative spaces.” the statement further reads.
