The Bomet County Government disaster management team is actively engaged in the search for a man who reportedly jumped into a swollen river following a disagreement at a drinking joint in Kipsuter area.
Allegedly, the deceased was taunted by his drinking companions about his fighting skills, which led to him attempting suicide.
According to Mr. Paul Sang, an uncle to the deceased, clothing believed to belong to the victim was discovered at the scene near Chepkulo River, where he was last seen heading after the altercation.
It’s reported that the man became agitated after being insulted by one of his drinking mates, who threatened to slap him to determine who should consume more alcohol. Despite attempts by another friend to calm him down, he remained determined to leave the premises and was last sighted heading towards the river approximately a kilometer away.
Area Chief Joseah Ng’eno has confirmed that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the sequence of events leading to the incident. Additionally, County disaster officer Stanley Mutai reported that an unidentified male body was observed being swept away by the strong currents of the floods, approximately 25 kilometers from the site of the altercation.
