In a candid revelation on the latest episode of the Iko Nini podcast, renowned singer Mr Lenny, formerly known as the ‘King of Collabos,’ shared the reasons behind the breakdown of his marriage and extended valuable advice to the younger generation of married couples.
The seasoned artist emphasized the importance of addressing issues in marriages differently than previous generations, urging couples not to shy away from seeking professional help.
Mr Lenny highlighted the stigma associated with counseling in the past, emphasizing the contemporary acceptance of such assistance in navigating challenges.
“There are so many things that I have come to realize led to my marriage collapsing. Things like generational issues that you need to work on and put a stop to. Seek the help of a counselor, because in those days, having an appointment with a psychiatrist or counselor was seen as shameful. Times are different now, and we have come to the realization that these issues are actually sicknesses that need professional help,” advised Mr Lenny.
During the podcast, the father of two opened up about the primary factor that contributed to the demise of his marriage – financial strain exacerbated by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I believe that our marriage broke because both of us had issues, the main one being finances. I get money from events, but during Covid-19, there were no events. My job, which was also struggling before, closed completely,” Mr Lenny disclosed.
The singer explained that the financial burden placed on his wife as the sole breadwinner during the pandemic took a toll on their relationship, ultimately leading to the collapse of their marriage.
“It became a rift because my wife was the one paying off the bills. The jobs were very rare, and when they did come, the money would be used to clear debts. Eventually, she wanted out,” he revealed.
Mr Lenny’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges many couples faced during the unprecedented circumstances of the pandemic, shedding light on the importance of open communication and seeking professional assistance to navigate marital difficulties.
