Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni announced Wednesday he had tested positive for Covid-19 again.
The 78-year-old went into isolation after testing positive for Covid on June 7 and was scheduled to undergo his possibly final test on Thursday.
In a statement shared on Twitter late afternoon, Museveni said his results came positive although he was not feeling sick.
“I do not feel sick and I only felt a slight feverishness on the 3 or so first days. Otherwise, I feel ready to move out of self-isolation. However, today, again, we carried out corona tests and I was still positive,” he said.
As such, Museveni said he will cancel a diplomatic trip on Thursday bringing together six other heads of state to discuss the Russia-Ukraine war.
“I was supposed to have joined them tomorrow. I have now sent an official message that, on account of my continued corona status, I cannot join the group. Dr Rugunda will represent us. He is already in Poland. From Poland, they will go to Russia to meet with the Russians. I wish the mission success,” he said, referring to his Special Envoy for Special Duties.
He however said he will be able to address Parliament on Thursday during the budget reading.
“Since I am not travelling to Kiev and Russia, I will be able to address Parliament tomorrow, virtually, on the budget Day,” read the statement.

On Tuesday, a national prayer service was held in the capital Kampala to ask God to heal Museveni.
He also went on Twitter to slam a section of Kenyans whom he accused of spreading rumours that he was admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) following his diagnosis.
“I also noticed some few individuals from, I think, Kenya, saying that I was in ICU etc. If I was in ICU, the government would inform the country. What is there to hide?” he posed.
“However, I have not been to bed as a sick man in the house here except for sleeping, let alone being in a hospital bed, whether ICU or otherwise. Continue praying, we shall overcome.”
