Some Nairobi traders are counting losses after a fire razed down their property in Mutindwa.
Just two days after the Toi market fire, Mutindwa market which is located in Eastlands was reduced to ashes.
Properties worth Sh100 million were lost in the inferno. Mutindwa market is located at the border of Umoja One ward and Burburu estate.
Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje revealed that the fire which started at around 2 am, was aggressive.
“Traders at Mutindwa Market have lost goods worth over Sh100 million following the 2 am inferno… Poleni sana watu wangu, we will assess the damage and we must rebuild,” he said in a statement.
The MP said he was in constant communication with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja Johnson and has called upon City Hall to send additional Fire Engines.
Angry traders expressed their disappointment with the fire brigade, noting that the market is almost five minutes away from Kangundo fire station.
Traders said the Fire Brigade response was one hour later.
“There was panic at the adjacent Bidii Primary School. Extremely late response from City County firefighters at a time when there wasn’t too much traffic,” said Stephen Mutoro.
“Pray for Mutindwa market traders,” Zamuh Adan.
“Gosh, I am passing by Buru only to find the whole of Mutindwa Market is on fire,” another Twitter user said.
