Kenyan youths are increasingly recognising the potential of the online space not only for entertainment but also as a platform for economic empowerment. Many are now seeking ways to harness the limitless opportunities available through content creation and digital skills.

Mercy Mutuku, Digital Marketing Manager for Sarova Hotels, stands as a testament to the transformative power of acquiring digital skills.

Inspired by a lecturer during her university days, Mercy explored the digital marketing space and enrolled in the DigifyPro online course after completing her undergraduate degree in Marketing.

The course not only equipped her with relevant digital skills but also provided placement assistance, leading her to one of Kenya’s major digital marketing agencies.

Today, she leads the digital marketing team for Sarova Hotels, emphasising the importance of aligning oneself with the future and following personal talents.

Beryle Okwach, Assistant Manager Growth and Partnerships at ImpactHER Foundation, shared a similar journey. Starting with a background in Project Management, she upgraded her skills through the online course. This integration of digital skills with her existing career path has given her a competitive edge and expanded her professional network.

Both success stories highlight the impact of Digify Africa, a youth-led organisation partnering with Meta to provide online marketing training, boosting digital literacy levels among Kenyan youths. The initiative aims to equip young individuals with the necessary digital skills to thrive in the evolving digital economy.

Celestine Ukpere, the Project Manager for Digify Africa in Kenya, emphasised that their programs are designed to transform unemployed learners into competent digital marketing professionals. The courses cover practical experience in social media, analytics, search, content creation, and user experience (UX). With support from Meta, the program seeks to empower Kenyan youths to embark on and advance in careers within the dynamic digital landscape.

As the current state of the economy increasingly favors businesses leveraging the digital space, initiatives like DigifyPro play a crucial role in shaping the future of the workforce. The collaborative effort between Digify Africa and Meta serves as a beacon of opportunity for Kenyan youths seeking to thrive in the new digital era, providing them with the skills and competencies necessary to succeed in the ever-evolving digital economy.
