17 people in Nakuru have today been rescued from a suspected cult church, police have confirmed.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, the incident was first reported by a parent who claimed that her daughter had been confined in a house in Kamwene ‘B’ village, Kihingo ward and Njoro sub-county.

Police visited the scene where they discovered that the complainant had secured a job in community health nursing at Nigeria GK dispensary.

“The said job was meant for her daughter named Leah Cherono aged 35 years and a mother of four children. She was supposed to report on 26th April 2023 but refused and travelled with her husband named Alfred Ocholla to Kamwene ‘B’ village, Mugumini sub-location, Lusiru location within Kihingo ward,” the police statement reads in parts.

The police found the woman’s daughter together with others confined in a house belonging to one Hellen Wanjru who ran an unregistered and suspected cultic church known as ‘Army Rurwama’.

The 17 who included both adults and children are said to have been fellowshipping, praying and fasting. They were rescued and taken to Njoro police station as police probe the incident.
