Police in Migori County in collaboration with the Criminal Investigation officers at the police headquarters have gunned down three suspected thugs and arrested three others in the ongoing crackdown on criminal gangs.
Migori County Police Commander Peter Kimani said three suspects who are part of the team of nine thugs were gunned down by the police in Suneka area on Thursday night and they recovered an AK47 gun.
Kimani said the officers from Migori in collaboration with those from Nairobi traced the gang from Isebania to Suneka where they managed to gun them down after a serious gunfire exchange between the gang and the police.
The county police commander said a church pastor at Isebania is among the three gunned down during the ambush laid by the police.
Mr. Kimani said the officers from the criminal investigation department early this week managed to arrest three suspects and recovered a pistol, 58 rounds of ammunition and other crude weapons including a panga, a knife, and an axe from the suspects in Mabera area.
He said for the past week, police have been trailing the criminal gang that has been operating between the counties of Migori, Kisii and Homa Bay. Kimani said the gang has its accomplices in the neighboring country Tanzania.
The county police commander said several traders have been raided by the gang of that operates using three motorcycles adding that the latest incidents were reported in Muhurubay in Nyatike sub-county.
