Betty Bayo’s widower, Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash’s video in court, testifying in what has become a very public and heated custody battle over the late singer’s children, has resurfaced online.

In a court testimony that has since circulated widely online, Tash laid out a detailed account of his involvement in the children’s lives, making several pointed allegations against Bayo’s ex-husband, Pastor Victor Kanyari.

Tash says he enrolled kids at Woodcreek School

Tash told the court that it was he, not Kanyari, who enrolled the children at Woodcreek International School, and that the admission letter carries his name as proof.

He claimed he had been paying their school fees since 2020 and had all the receipts to back it up.

“I want proof to be brought before you. I’m the one who took them to Woodcreek School, International School. I have their admission letter with my name, and I started paying for their school,” he said.

He further alleged that Kanyari only began showing public interest in the children after he noticed that Bayo and the kids were living comfortably with him.

According to Tash, Kanyari then started claiming on social media that he was paying KSh 1 million in school fees.

Tash recalled that Bayo herself challenged Kanyari directly over those claims.

“The mother was alive, and she called him when I was with her, and she told him, you cannot be bragging that you pay a million shillings and you do nothing. You don’t feed those kids. You don’t do anything. You just want to come in and ruin my relationship,” Tash recounted in his testimony.

Court ordered Kanyari to repay school fees

Tash told the court that Bayo took Kanyari to court over the matter, and that the magistrate ordered him to reimburse the school fees that had already been paid.

According to Tash, a letter confirming that Kanyari owed KSh 1.1 million was issued, and that debt remains outstanding to date.

He said Kanyari was also instructed to pay monthly upkeep of between KSh 30,000 and KSh 80,000 for the children.

Where did Tash buy kids’ home?

Tash also disputed claims about the family home’s location, saying Kanyari had told the court the house was in Runda when it is actually in Kimbo.

He also pushed back against suggestions that he had denied Kanyari access to the children, saying video footage online shows him personally dropping the kids off at Kanyari’s gate.

Tash expressed concern over the emotional toll the prolonged dispute has taken on the children, who are still grieving their mother and have built lasting memories in the home they currently share with him.
