A Kenyan TikTok creator known as Derick Omollo has died following a violent encounter with thieves in Juja, sending shockwaves through Kenya’s online creator community.
Omollo was a student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) at the time of his death.
According to reports online, he had been out for a walk with a group of friends when the incident occurred.
How Derick Omollo lost his life
Details of what happened emerged through a chat screenshot that circulated online, shared by people close to the deceased.
The message described how five individuals, including Omollo, were together when they were suddenly confronted by thugs. As the group tried to flee, Omollo fell into a quarry, and that fall proved fatal.
The leaked chat read:
“Walikuwa 5 people, they were out for a walk wakakuwa attacked na thugs, wakajaribu kuhepa yeye akaanguka kwa quarry akapass.”
The person who shared the chat added a note directed at those asking for details:
“Wenye wanauliza what happened to his death ndo hii full story.”
Kenyan creator community mourns
The TikTok video reporting his death carried a caption that read:
“Life is so short manzee, Rest in peace, Omollo,” with the bottom text adding, “This is sad.”
The news spread rapidly online, with many fans and followers expressing disbelief. One comment highlighted in the video simply read:
“What am I hearing about Omollo, is it true?”
Omollo’s death is a painful reminder of the dangers posed by criminals in areas surrounding university campuses. His passing has left fellow students, friends, and online followers devastated.
