Arsenal legend, Paul Merson has questioned Manchester United deadline-day signing Marcel Sabitzer.
Following a terrible injury to star midfielder, Christian Eriksen, the Red Devils quickly began searching for midfield reinforcements.
Manchester United hurriedly completed a loan deal for Sabitzer on deadline day, but Merson does not think the 28-year-old would make any impact at Old Trafford.
The Australian is on loan from Bayern Munich until the end of the season.
Merson said it was nothing but another ‘panic buy’.
“He doesn’t get in the Bayern Munich team, he’s way off that,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“I know the two in midfield are cemented but if he was that good, he’d be pushing,” Merson said wondering why a club in the pedigree of Manchester should be signing a player who sits on the bench week in week out at Bayern Munich.
“Again it goes back to panic,” he added.
“There was no interest in him on January 1, now it’s a panic.
“It’s a panic and you’re bringing fourth rate Bayern Munich players in. For me, I’m not sure about that.
“This lad wasn’t on the radar before, he doesn’t get in the Bayern Munich team.”
Further lashing out at Erik ten Hag’s choice, the former Arsenal man believes there are players who are far better than the Australia international who is not even in Bayern Munich’s first team.
