A video showing Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo with several expensive watches has resurfaced online following his death.
Chivayo and his wife, Lucy, died in a helicopter crash near Marondera, Zimbabwe, on 30 September 2026.
The video shows Chivayo inside what appears to be a private room, proudly displaying several watches in jewellery boxes.
The watches are from Jacob & Co, a luxury watch and jewellery company known for making high-priced, diamond-covered timepieces.
After Chivayo’s death, Jacob & Co reportedly removed Instagram posts linked to him. The company did not publicly explain why the posts were taken down.
Wicknell Chivayo’s luxury watch shopping spree
The video was filmed in July 2026, when Chivayo visited Jacob & Co’s headquarters in Geneva.
He was personally hosted by the company’s founder, Jacob Arabo.
According to the source, Chivayo spent about $4.3 million on watches during the visit. One of the watches was the Billionaire Double Tourbillon, a luxury timepiece priced at about $3.4 million.
The video also showed two Caviar Angel Cut diamond watches.
Chivayo said the two watches had just been released and claimed that nobody had bought them before him.
During the conversation, Arabo asked Chivayo whether he wanted to buy something for his wife as well.
Chivayo appeared to change his mood and said he would return “a couple of months later” after settling his current purchases.
He then mentioned that his next target was an all-yellow diamond watch as reported by Briefly News.
Why were Jacob & Co posts about Chivayo removed?
On Monday, 5 October 2026, X user @BornfaceBandaa shared the video and suggested that Chivayo had not completed payments for the watches before his death.
The user wrote:
“In case you were wondering why Wicknell’s Jacob & Co. posts were taken down, the man himself mentioned finishing payments months later in this video. Unfortunately, he died before completing them.”
The claim sparked discussion online, although Jacob & Co did not publicly say that unpaid bills were the reason for removing the posts.

Netizens react to Chivayo’s watch collection
The video attracted different reactions from social media users across Africa.
@advofchange criticised the watches, saying:
“Only people who don’t know about timepieces buy this scam that Jacob sells.”
@Africankobra focused on the conversation between Chivayo and Arabo, writing:
“When Jacob says, ‘And for your wife, nothing?’ You can see the fat fool lose his energy because he knows he can’t say ‘no’ for fear of being labelled broke, etc. He knows he can’t afford a new expensive piece before he has paid for what he has. Jacob makes these fools his slaves 😂”
@SamMathambo quoted the Bible:
“Vanity of vanities,’ says the preacher. Vanity of vanities, all is vanity. Ecclesiastes 1:2”
@AnisaBagz criticised Africans spending large amounts of money abroad, saying:
“So sad 😞 😔 😟 African leaders squandering 💰 in white man’s land. While Africans back home are dying because of lack of clean drinking water 🚰”
