A wedding video that has tugged at heartstrings across Kenya shows groom Isaya Yunge making his way down the aisle entirely on his own, with no family member at his side to accompany him on one of life’s most significant moments.
The footage, which spread quickly online, struck an emotional chord with viewers who connected the solo walk to Isaya’s turbulent early years.
Isaya Yunge’s difficult childhood
Isaya’s story is one of remarkable resilience. His parents separated when he was still young, and the responsibility of raising him fell to his grandmother. Growing up, he spent considerable time herding goats and cattle and labouring around rice plantations. He also started school relatively late, beginning his education at the age of seven.
His childhood involved moving between foster homes, giving him a close-up view of the challenges that children face when they grow up without stable, consistent family structures around them.
Why did Isaya Yunge walk alone
Relationship expert Allan Lawrence offered some perspective on the moment, noting that Isaya’s decision to walk down the aisle unaccompanied could stem from several factors linked to his upbringing and personal history.

Walking alone down the aisle is traditionally associated with loss or the absence of a parent figure, and for someone with Isaya’s background, the moment carried layers of meaning that many viewers were quick to feel.
“Isaya walking down the aisle alone may carry a story much deeper than what meets the eye. It reminds us that not everyone arrives at life’s milestones with the same support system as expected. Psychologically, growing up in foster homes can mean experiencing disrupted attachment, inconsistent emotional support and the absence of traditional family bonds,” Lawrence shared.
He continued:
“Walking down the aisle alone may therefore represent more than a wedding moment, as it may reflect a life journey in which someone has had to learn self-reliance in the absence of a dependable family support system. Sometimes, the people celebrating the beginning of a new family are still healing from the family experiences they never had.”
Despite the absence of family by his side, the video ultimately served as a testament to how far Isaya has come from a childhood defined by hardship and uncertainty.
