Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Barasa has confirmed two new cases of Mpox in Kenya within the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 12. In a statement on Friday, CS Barasa detailed the distribution of the cases across various counties: Nakuru (2), Kajiado (2), Taita Taveta (1), Busia (1), Nairobi (1), Mombasa (1), Makueni (1), Bungoma (1), Kericho (1), and Kilifi (1).
Out of these cases, five individuals are currently undergoing treatment, while seven have fully recovered. No deaths have been recorded thus far. The Health CS also reported that 68 contacts have been traced, with 60 completing the required 21-day monitoring period. Two of these contacts tested positive, and six remain under active follow-up.
In the last 24 hours, 15,269 travelers were screened at various Points of Entry (POEs), bringing the cumulative number of screened travelers to 1,161,622 across 26 POEs. The National Public Health Laboratory has tested 230 samples, with 12 returning positive results, 217 negative, and one pending.
CS Barasa urged Kenyans to remain vigilant, avoid close contact with infected individuals, limit the number of sexual partners, and maintain good hygiene. She also encouraged anyone noticing symptoms to report immediately through the toll-free number 719.
